International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC).

The International Early Years Programme (IEYC) is used to guide the school in the Early Years (Pre-Nursery/Nursery and Reception). It is for children between 2 and 5. It uses international best practices, holistic inquiry, and play-based approaches that cover all curriculum areas including personal, social, and emotional development.

The Early Years are a time when children acquire skills and knowledge and then demonstrate their understanding through seven areas of learning and development. 

The three main areas that children develop are Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal and Social-Emotional Development. These areas are essential for learning. These prime areas help develop skills in four areas: Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World; Expressive Arts and Designs. The IEYC teaches children to play and explore, be active, and use creative and critical thinking.

By linking home and school experiences, and maintaining a positive and active home-school partnership, the dedicated Early Years team ensures that every child’s transition to school is smooth. It is important for children to feel safe in school settings, and at CrestForth, we are committed to creating a welcoming and warm environment.

Teachers plan meaningful learning opportunities that allow children to take control of their learning. This is called ‘child-led learning. Every child is encouraged to learn how to organize, manage, be independent, have self-confidence, be creative, take responsibility, and respect others. To meet the learning needs of each child, there are opportunities for reinforcement and enrichment.

THE IEYC CURRICULUM IS DESIGNED WITH EIGHT LEARNING PRINCIPLES. CONSIDERED ESSENTIAL FOR CHILDREN’S LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT.

International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

Children’s Day at CrestForth International School

The International Primary Curriculum (IPC), is a curriculum that children between 5 and 11 years of age can use. It is used in over 730 schools across 92 countries. The IPC is a creative, comprehensive, and thematic curriculum that focuses on specific learning goals. It encourages learning and international-mindedness. It uses the UK’s National Curriculum as a guideline and identifies the knowledge, skills, and understanding that children should have.

IPC curriculum offers over 90 thematic units that are child-friendly and current. These themes encourage students to study Science, Geography, and History. They also help them make connections and purposeful connections to their learning and the world around them. The ability to link subjects helps children understand and apply concepts better.

The IPC curriculum offers many ideas for active and collaborative learning within each theme. It also suggests role play and opportunities for children to learn from one another.

Mileposts 1 – 2 & 3

The IPC organizes curriculum into four-year groups: Milepost 1, Infant 1 and Infant 2, Milepost 2 and Class and Class 2, Milepost 3 and Milepost 4. Over the course of a year, the curriculum is divided into five themes (or ‘learning units’). Over the course of a year, children learn and acquire skills that are balanced with their knowledge and understanding. The IPC units are connected to English, mathematics, and Portuguese when appropriate. 

The National Curriculum for England teaches English and Mathematics, and Portuguese is taught using the Brazilian curriculum. However, the National Curriculum for England teaches integral knowledge, skills, and understanding of English and Mathematics. Personal Social Health Education is taught using separate curriculum models that are based on the UK’s Social and Emotional Aspects Of Learning (SEAL), and the recommendations of the PSHE Association.

After children have completed the Early Years, they can enter Milepost 1 (Infant 1) They will be fluent in English and Portuguese by then. When children turn 7 years old, they will be able to read, write, and speak Portuguese.


Through Mileposts 1 and 2, their learning is focused upon the skills, knowledge, and understanding that will prepare them for secondary school.
